Dr. Jacquelyn D. Elliott Contributes to Book

Chapel Hill, NC - The American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) has released a recent publication titled Helping Veterans Succeed: A Handbook for Higher Education Administrators. The book provides valuable information for institutions as they help veterans from the armed forces transition from military service to college classrooms.

The book was developed to help institutions learn more about assessing service offerings, the various types of institutional programs, and setting up pathways to employment after graduation. enrollmentFUEL’s president, Dr. Jacquelyn D. Elliott, contributed a chapter on the specific issues confronting female veterans, covering how women’s military careers shape their civilian expectations and how higher education professionals can better serve their needs.

Dr. Elliott said, “Women comprise a growing percentage of military personnel. While the roles of women are expanding to include combat and combat-support operations, there are often differences in deployment regarding sexual harassment, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and family concerns. Having a clear understanding of both the experiences and expectations of female service members can better inform college and university staff and help them meet the needs of this cohort.”

Helping Veterans Succeed: A Handbook for Higher Education Administrators is available at AACRAO’s online store.
